Peace win two in a row with close victories over Prince
Avenue Prep and Veritas Christian.

Peace Get Invite to NACA National Championships..
AI
received an invitation to the 2010 National Association of
Christian Athletes Prep Elite Tournament in Dayton, TN,
March 3rd-5th. The Peace is expected to accept the invitation
and is trying to work out financial arrangements now. "This is
a great opportunity, there are always lots of college coaches
in attendance on all levels at this event. In 2004, my
Statesville Christian team won this tournament, it is a very
prestigous national title to play for." said, Jordan.

Peace on a roll. The season started out rough for us but we
have won 4 of our last 6 games including a 60-53 win over a
loaded Kitrell Heights squad out of Raleigh in the Oak Ridge
Military Holiday Classic this past Wednesday. Gaellan
Bewernick and James Boonstoppell continue to provide a
strong scoring punch for us with both of them averaging 20
plus points per game, however our other guys have really
been stepping up. We have two new players with Beka Sikic a
6'1" guard from the country of Georgia joining our team along
with Anthony Peterilli who is expected in later on this week.
We are still hoping to get two bigs 6'11 from Kosovo and
7'5"!!!! from Serbia however they have been held up with
Visa problems, yet we are managing well right now.

Back in the Saddle...Yes I did have a heart attack last week
but everything checked out okay and I was back coaching on
Wednesday night. I appreciate all of the get well wishes while I
was in the hospital. They could not find a cause for my attack,
my cholesterol is great, I am in decent shape and there was
no reason it should have happened. I think it was God's way
of tapping me on the shoulder and telling me to "Chill Out." I
am just trying to cut the stress level and watch the blood
pressure.

Peace Sees Tough Comp at Bull City. American Int'l
dropped both games at the Bull City Classic but Coach
Jordan is still pleased with his team's progress and
performance. "We played two very good teams, Mt Zion on
Friday and On Point Academy out of Oklahoma on Saturday.
Friday we lost by 8 points but cut the lead to 3 with just over a
minute to play. They were an experienced squad with an ACC
signee and a deep bench, they ended up winning their
division. When I scouted the team we were going to face on
Saturday, I honestly felt we were going to be way over
matched, they were faster, more athletic and way deeper than
we were. Yet, our kids fought hard and came back from 13
down at half time to take the lead late in the 4th quarter. We
ended up losing by 3 but in both games our kids saw just how
close we are to defeating some of the top teams. You have to
remember, we had two new players who had never played
with us in a game situation, give us a little practice time and
and the sky is the limit." said Jordan. Several scouts were in
attendance at the games this weekend including Radford,
Union College, VCU, High Point and others. There were also
several scouting services in attendance including
Starhoopers and Rivals.
Some video from the games will
be online later in the week.

Top Performances

Friday - Friday saw four players in double figures with James
Boonstoppel, Gaellan Bewernick and Gianni Stivianivis
scoring 14 each and Luke Lougoon adding 10. Bewernick
collected 13 rebounds

Saturday - The same three young men led the team in
scoring with 16, 12 and 10, Bewernick again recorded a
double double with 16 pts and 14 rebounds.

Scrimmage Today - 2PM VS. Veritas. This will be an
informal scrimmage to help get us ready for the Bull City
Classic on Friday and Saturday and help acquaint our new
players with our system under game like conditions.

Peace attend Clemson/Winthrop game on Tuesday
Night.
AI was the guest of the Clemson Tigers for their
Tuesday home game against Winthrop University. The boy's
had seats right behind the Clemson bench. Both of Coach
Jordan's former players saw game time which was highlighted
by Junior Walk-on Jonah Baize scoring two 3 pointers in the
last 1:30 of the game.

How Good is the Competition the Peace Face? When AI
traveled to Flora McDonald for their season opener, Coach
Jordan told his "Gang of Six" they just lost to one of the best
high school teams in North Carolina but played them tough
even though they had more height, more players and a home
court advantage. He needs to take that back and should have
told them they lost to perhaps one of the top teams in the
nation. Flora McDonald traveled to Asheville on Tuesday to
take on the ESPN # 11 ranked high school team in the nation,
Christ School. Christ School escaped with a 3 pt win on a last
second shot on their home floor. Christ School has not lost on
their home floor in over three years.

Peace Puts Four Players in Double Digits but Falls to
Queen City..
AI traveled to Charlotte on Tuesday to take on
the 7-1 Queen City Prep Trailblazers. The Peace was able to
stay even the first half going into half-time with a 34 - 34 tie,
however the second half saw the home team begin to wear
down the Peace who were again playing with just 6 players
compared to 12 for Queen City, including 4 players 6'8" or
taller. "Our kids battled the whole way, it is going to be tough
until we get some more bodies in, we have help coming this
weekend in the form of a very talented 6'8" Greek power
forward and a solid D1 point guard. We have good shooting
guards and a great 3 man now, but a seasoned point and a
true big man is where we are hurting." Said AI head coach,
John Jordan. He went on to compliment the individual play of
several members of his team. " James Boonstoppel shot the
lights out and kept us in this thing, he scored 32 pts along
with doing a great job of delivering the ball to the open man.
Luke Lougoon is a great shooting guard who has been forced
to run the point for us, he has responded well and put in 18
solid points and several assists. 6'6" Gaellan Bewernick and
6'5" Mitch Trestrail had to hold down the middle for us while
giving up several inches to their opponents, they both did a
tremendous job on the boards and scoring, they each had 10
pts. John Abhishek played excellent defense and just seems
to improve every game. We were happy to welcome David
Brown a 6'5" local forward to the team. He showed some
glimpses of things to come and once he becomes familiar with
our offenses and defensive schemes he will be a major
contributor. Coaches from Kennesaw State were on hand for
the game.

Peace Out of Flora McDonald Tournament But Pick Up
Three More Contests.
Coach Jordan was livid but there
was little he could do about Flora McDonald's decison to drop
the Peace from this weekend's tournament. "I'm hot, we travel
four hours to play them for their home opener, they promised
us a spot in their tournament this weekend. I then learn from
them just on Tuesday of this week that they are dropping us
from the tournament because three other NCISAA high school
teams in the tourney refused to come if we were allowed to
compete. That is ludicrous, if they were public high school
teams I could more than understand but the NCISAA teams
allow their schools to reclassify kids (This means a student
can take a grade over, even if they passed everything and
still not lose a year of eligibility.) In fact over the last few years
their top players have all been in their fifth year of high school
athletics, much the same as our guys. I am terribly mad and
have not only contacted our attorney but also the press in
that region. I feel there was a real case of collusion among
those small NCISAA schools out there and if I can prove it, I
will make them pay." In the meantime, Jordan practiced what
he preached and did not dwell on the negative, instead he
got on the phone and immediately picked up three more
games for AI to replace the lost games this weekend. The first
one is this Saturday in Charlotte at 4PM against Southern
Carolina Prep, the team will then scrimmage Veritas Christian
next Tuesday. The Peace also picked up a Jan 16th home
game against Southern Carolina Prep and another game in
the Prep All Stars Classic that has now been expanded to a
tournament format.

AI Drops Opener to Flora McDonald..Flora McDonald has
a solid roster of 14 players, including three players in the 6'10
range led by NC State bound, Luke Cothran. The Peace
dressed only 6 players for the Monday night game, had
driven nearly 5 hours and only got their sixth man as they
were passing through Raleigh on the way to Red Springs. Yet
as outnumbered and out gunned as they were, the Peace
gave FMA all they could handle for the first half of play. "It
was much too early for us to be playing a regular season
game but we had committed to it and were certainly going to
honor that commitment. We are still waiting on several players
to arrive between now and next week including the majority of
our big guys. We had not ran our offenses against anyone or
scrimmaged anyone, yet our kids really did an extraordinary
job executing their offense and controlling the boards. The
final score indicates an 18 pt loss but this game was really
much closer than that. We led much of the 1st and 2nd
quarter until just a small spurt that included 3 straight 3's by
Luke Cothran in less than a minute put FMA on top going into
the locker room at half time. We just wore down in the second
half." Luke Lougoon led the team with 20 pts, while 6'6"
newcomer, Gaellan Bewernick got out of the van, introduced
himself to his teammates and scored 18pts and grabbed 13
rebounds for his new team. James Boonstoppel had 14 pts, 6
boards and 5 assists. 6'5" Matt Trestrail contributed 6 pts and
grabbed 8 boards. John Abhishek had 3 pts and 4 steals
while Brad Buckner contributed 3 assists and had 4 steals.
The Peace out rebounded the much taller opponent by a
32-26 margin. "I was more than pleased with how these kids
performed. FMA is one of the more talented high school
teams in the state of North Carolina, yet with not even a
scrimmage under their belt, these 6 kids hung with them. I am
very proud of every one of them" said AI head coach, John
Jordan.

Gaellan Bewernick Joins Peace..AI got a much needed
boost to the lineup on Monday as 6'6" 3-4 man Gaellan
Bewernick joined the team. The 2009 graduate of LA's ,
Manual Arts HS averaged 26 ppg and 17.5 rbpg his senior
year of high school. The 3.0 student turned down an NCAA
Division I scholarship offer to New Orleans University following
his senior year of high school in hopes of using this season to
secure an offer to a school that was more to his liking in terms
of both academics and basketball. Bewernick is getting major
interest from MTSU, Northern Arizona, Marshall and
Wisconsin to name a few. "Gaellan fits in well with our guys,
he had gotten to know two of our Australians through National
Scouting Report and participating with them on a recreational
team down in Raleigh. He has a college body, is very strong
and rebounds like he is 6'9". He has a nice touch out to the 3
pt line and really understands the game. He is a definite mid
to high major catch. He will flourish when our big guys get in.
